1. I’ll take it
Nice to see the Bears and Brian Urlacher reach a compromise. It might not have been what Urlacher wanted, but I would gladly “compromise” for a $6 million signing bonus.
2. Who’s got next?
Now, can we see about fixing this quarterback situation. I think we could “compromise” with Brett Favre, eh?
3. Too soon?
The only real problem with this Urlacher-Bears stuff? Isn’t it a bit early to be obsessing about football when baseball is treating us so well?
4. The real Kerry Wood
The oft-injured, disabled-list mainstay Kerry Wood I know is back. It’s at once comforting knowing some things never change but scary knowing how much the Cubs depend on him.
5. Lance chance
Lance Armstrong was signing baseballs for members of the White Sox before Monday’s game. I’m sorry to say Kate Hudson was nowhere to be seen.
6. Bulletproof
Sox right-fielder Jermaine Dye was OK after being hit in the left knee by a pitch for the second game in a row Sunday. If he were a Cub, he’d be in a wheelchair.
7. See ya — maybe
President Bush gave U.S. Olympians a rousing sendoff on Monday. Let’s hope he sent them to Beijing and not Iraq.
8. It’s a good cause
Baseball officials are meeting with the founder of savethefamegame.com, devoted to saving the Hall of Fame game. That reminds me to start my savedanicapatrick.com site.
9. Shockey and awe
The New Orleans Saints traded for star tight end Jeremy Shockey. Just what that city needs: More hot air blowing into town.
FIVE SITES …
