Waiter Rant
By The Waiter
Ecco, 302 pages, $24.94
For four years, an anonymous waiter chronicled on the Internet the bad, ugly and occasionally decent behavior at a white-tablecloth restaurant he called “The Bistro,” reporting on patrons and the symphony of characters who make the restaurant work — or not. Parts of this book, adapted from the Web site, are funny (“50 Ways to Tell You’re Working in a Bad Restaurant”) and touching. “If you keep your eyes open,” the Waiter writes, “you’ll see the occasional crumb of human grace fall from the table.”
