Marine veterinarians euthanized a sick, 26-foot-long whale Friday after it became stranded on a mudflat off the coast of southern England.

The coast guard helped it return to the water, but the whale became stranded a second time on a mudflat and rescuers decided to put it down.

Blood tests showed the whale was suffering from kidney failure, said an official with the British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
