Motorcyclist killed on West Side
A motorcyclist was killed Monday night when his bike veered over the center line on a West Side street, police said.
The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. in the 100 block of North Central Park Avenue in East Garfield Park, police said Tuesday morning.
Ramon Diaz, 45, of the 900 block of North Harding Avenue was heading south when his motorcycle veered into oncoming northbound traffic, police said. The motorcycle crashed, but police could not specify into what.
Woman killed in O’Hare traffic crash
An Itasca woman was killed in a traffic crash Monday at O’Hare.
Shortly before 5 p.m., Young Ji’s vehicle left a roadway inside the airport and struck a light pole, officials said.
Ji, 51, of the 400 block of South Walnut Avenue in Itasca, was pronounced dead later in the evening at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to a Cook County medical examiner’s office spokesman.
Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian was killed and two other people were injured Tuesday in an accident on the West Side.
Johnny Bell, 22, of the 1600 block of West Madison Street was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. in Mt. Sinai Hospital, said a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. at Madison Street and Pulaski Road in Garfield Park, police said. A van struck Bell, then another vehicle and a bicyclist, preliminary reports said.
2nd cop indicted in towing scheme
A second Chicago police officer was indicted in connection with a scheme to have his car towed away and declared stolen for insurance money, the U.S. attorney’s office announced.
Grand-Central District Officer Scott Campbell, 42, of Chicago was charged Tuesday with fraud in a 2007 plan to have his Volkswagen towed and cut up for parts. Campbell allegedly sought to have the car reported as theft.
Charged in June in the scheme was Campbell’s friend and fellow officer Joseph Grillo.
