* Clouds then break, allowing a good deal of mixed sunshine to emerge.

* Northeast winds strengthen to 8 to 18 m.p.h., limiting shoreline highs to the mid-70s while low- and mid-80s occur well inland.

* Daytime heating may brew some scattered thunderstorms, but most likely in areas well to the west and south of Chicago.
