Athletes churn up the water Sunday in Lake Michigan during the swim portion of the Chicago Triathlon. The race winner, 29-year-old Stuart Hayes of England, said he already knew where part of his 1st-place check would go: the hospital. After a swollen right knee caused Hayes to take a $1,300 trip to the emergency room Saturday evening, the pain and swelling subsided and he went on to win in 1 hour, 48 minutes and 9.2 seconds, earning $10,000.
