1. Collect for a cause. More than 50 dealers from around the Midwest gather at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest on Sept. 7 for the 41st Annual Antiques & Treasures in the Field. lakeforestantiquesale.com
2. Attention window herb gardeners — or wannabes. Now’s the time to get your fall/winter indoor garden planted and/or refreshed. Prices of potted herbs (rosemary, basil, parsley) have been slashed at many garden centers. The bad news: supplies are low. What’s left is it for the season.
3. Don’t stop weeding. The fewer weed seeds that fall on your garden this year, the fewer weeds you’ll have next year. Don’t put weeds with seeds in the compost; put them out with the landscape waste, or you’ll just spread the seeds around.
