THREE UP

Stephen Drew became the first player to hit for the cycle at Chase Field in the D’backs’ 8-6 win over the Cardinals. Drew singled in the first, tripled in the third, homered in the fifth and doubled in the seventh.

Adrian Beltre joined Drew in the first two-cycle day in baseball since Sept. 17, 1920. The third baseman, who was 5-for-6 in the Mariners’ 12-6 win over the Rangers, tripled in the eighth to complete his cycle.

Dustin Pedroia continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with a two-run single to key the Red Sox’s 7-4 victory over the Orioles. Pedroia is hitting .600 (15-for-25) with nine runs scored in his last six games.

THREE DOWN

Brewers setup man Eric Gagne gave up three runs on four hits in the eighth, including a two-run homer to Carlos Delgado, in a 4-2 loss to the Mets. Gagne has a 6.81 ERA after signing a $10 million, one-year deal.

Not even a two-week stint on the disabled list could get Carlos Silva straightened out. The Mariners righty, who was out with elbow tendinitis, gave up six runs on 10 hits in 42/3 innings against the Rangers.

Braves closer Mike Gonzalez loaded the bases in the ninth and allowed a game-winning sacrifice fly in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins. “I just wasn’t throwing strikes,” Gonzalez said. “I beat myself in this situation.”
