PETITE PUPS

These mini turkey-pork hot dogs from Market Day come packed in their own petite buns. Kids will like them but we also think they’d be terrific for football (or World Series!) parties. The product is sold frozen; thaw it in the fridge, then microwave about 1 minute. A box of 12 individually wrapped dogs costs $9; visit marketday.com to order a pickup at a participating school or organization, or visit the store at 1250 N. Mittel Blvd., Wood Dale, 630-694-1951.

OIL ELAN

Grassy, complex flavors and a full finish characterize Melina’s Harvest extra-virgin olive oil, made from manzanillo olives grown on the estate of Skipstone Ranch winery in California’s Alexander Valley. The 12.7-ounce bottle is beautiful too. It is available while supplies last for $25 by mail-order only (skipstoneranch.com or 707-433-9124).

NUT-CENTRIC SNACKING

Frito-Lay’s TrueNorth snacks won raves from tasters, especially the pistachio crisps (brittle-like chunks) and almond clusters. A 1-ounce serving contains 5 grams of protein. A bag (4.5-5.5 ounces) costs $3-$3.50 at Wal-Mart and Jewel.
