“Uh oh” might be an understatement.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lost 76 weapons and hundreds of laptops within the last five years, the Justice Department report reported Wednesday, blaming carelessness and sloppy record-keeping for the problem. Other numbers from the audit:
35: Number of weapons — including handguns, rifles and Tasers — that were stolen
2: Number of stolen weapons that were used in crimes
19: Number of weapons that were lost
12 : Number of weapons that were unaccounted for due to poor record-keeping
418: Number of missing laptops, 50 of which were stolen
