At least 25 militants with suspected links to Al Qaeda have been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in San’a, Yemen, a senior security official said Thursday. The death toll from Wednesday’s attack rose to 17.
Palin hacked
Details emerged Thursday behind the break-in of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s e-mail account, including a first-hand account suggesting it was vulnerable because a hacker was able to impersonate her online to obtain her password.
Cell phone ban
California regulators have issued a temporary ordering banning train operators from using cell phones while on duty. It comes less than a week after a Southern California commuter train ran head-on into a freight train, killing 25 people and injuring more than 130.
Happy 113th, Mr. Tanabe
The world’s oldest man celebrated his 113th birthday Thursday in Miyakonojo, Japan, telling reporters he wants to live another five years. Tomoji Tanabe gets up early, reads a newspaper, drinks milk every afternoon and doesn’t drink alcohol or smoke.

Pope Benedict XVI will not attend World Family Day in Mexico City in January because the city sits too high above sea level for someone his age, a cardinal in Vatican City said Thursday.

THE PLOT: A donkey — yes, a donkey — has been sentenced in Tanta, Egypt, to 24 hours in jail for stealing corn from a field, al-Ahram weekly said on Thursday.
THE PLOT THICKENS: But who’s to blame? Local media reported that the donkey’s owner, a local farmer, admitted to training the animal to steal corncobs.
THE SHOCKER: The judge threw the book at the donkey and fined the farmer 50 Egyptian pounds. That’s $9.50.
THE PREQUEL: In May, a donkey from southern Mexico was found guilty of assault and battery and thrown behind bars after he attacked two men.
