BOLIVIA
The country is in the midst of a political crisis pitting supporters of President Evo Morales against opposition demonstrators. Two weeks of conflict saw some 30 people killed and 37 injured in the far northern city of Pando. The U.S. State Department urged U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel.
MALAYSIA
Over a three-week period in July and August three incidents involving American companies, including a kidnapping, drugging and harassment, occurred in Kuala Lumpur. Travelers should keep their guard up.
INDIA
Several explosions occurred in Delhi Sept. 13 at Connaught Place, Greater Kailash and Karol Bagh, killing at least nine people and injuring 100.
NETHERLANDS
A government threat- assessment report indicates that the Netherlands is considered a target for attacks by international terrorist networks because of the film “Fitna,” produced by Parliament member Geert Wilders and viewed by some groups as an insult to Islam.
THAILAND
The government lifted a state of emergency put in place during a three-week protest occupation of the prime minister’s grounds. Parliament elected a new prime minister Sept. 17, but demonstrators vowed to continue their protest.
