1. Dome deflates

2. Fugitive mom sentenced

A woman who escaped from a Michigan prison 32 years ago and lived on the lam as a suburban San Diego mother was sentenced to probation Wednesday, five months after her capture. Susan LeFevre (above) had already served 14 months in prison on a drug conviction when she escaped. AP

3. Obama effigy found

Officials of a small Christian university in Newberg, Ore., say a life-size cardboard effigy of Barack Obama was hung from a campus tree, suspended with fishing line around the neck. “We will not tolerate such displays and condemn it in the strongest terms,” George Fox University President Robin Baker said.

4. Man killed by train

A commuter train struck and killed a man in L.A. Wednesday and witnesses told police they saw him jump onto the tracks, police said. The man, approximately 50 years old, died at the scene, officials said.

5. 15 years for beating

A Florida man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his part in three attacks on homeless men in Ft. Lauderdale in 2006. William Ammons, 21, says he drove his friends to the attacks and struck one sleeping man with a plastic sword. He also said he fired a paintball gun at another man.

6. Pentagon budget passed

The House passed a $630 billion-plus spending bill Wednesday that wraps together a record Pentagon budget with aid for automakers and natural disaster victims, and increased health care for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The Senate is expected to approve it.
