Seve Ballesteros underwent a third operation for a cancerous brain tumor, a 6 1/2-hour procedure Friday that went “better than expected,” according to Madrid’s La Paz Hospital.
Doctors removed the rest of the tumor and reduced brain swelling. Ballesteros, 51, was in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
The Spanish golf great was admitted to the hospital Oct. 6 after briefly losing consciousness at Madrid’s international airport. Eight days later, a sizable part of the tumor was taken out.
“Today we remember Seve Ballesteros with special affection and concern,” Crown Prince Felipe said. “As he himself said, he is playing the game of his life.”
