Minnesota could have played for overtime against Northwestern in the final minute of regulation, but the No. 20 Gophers put the ball in the air. A tipped pass landed in Brendan Smith’s hands, and the Wildcats safety took it back 48 yards for a touchdown with 12 seconds left in a 24-17 upset.

Not to be outdone for a dramatic ending, Illinois got a 46-yard field goal from Matt Eller with 24 seconds left to beat Iowa 27-24. Notre Dame came out on the short end of its barn-burner, losing 36-33 to Pittsburgh in four overtimes.
