4 hurt in South Side accident
Four people were hurt Thursday morning in a traffic accident in Bronzeville. The victims were transported in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County and the University of Chicago Medical Center, Fire Department Cmdr. Will Knight said. The crash, which involved at least one vehicle that overturned, happened about 7:40 a.m. at East 48th Street and South Indiana Avenue.
6 injured in high school fight
Six Wells Community Academy High School students were hurt during a fight in the lunchroom in the Near Northwest Side high school Thursday morning, officials said, and another fight broke out outside the school later. An official for the Chicago Public Schools confirmed that there was a fight inside the school and said that at least three students were taken to hospitals. There were no injuries in the second fight, which occurred a couple blocks from school property.
Armed robbers hit business
Five people robbed a Southwest Side business at gunpoint and tied up three of its employees Thursday morning, Chicago police said. Five robbers, three of them with guns, tied up three employees during the robbery at about 10:15 a.m. at West 42nd Street and South Pulaski Road, Officer Daniel O’Brien said. Police said none of the employees was hurt. The robbers loaded unspecified merchandise into a truck and fled.
Man struck, killed in S. Loop
A man was struck and killed by a car in the South Loop on Wednesday evening, police said. The incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. near the corner of State Street and Roosevelt Road when the man moved “into traffic and was struck by a 1991 Mazda,” Chicago Police Officer Amina Greer said. The man was identified as Edward L. Mattingly, 80, of the 1200 block of South Michigan Avenue.
