Amtrak death ruled an accident
Officials on Sundaycalled the death of a 48-year-old woman who was struck by an Amtrak train Saturday near the Edgebrook Metra station on the Northwest Side an accident. The woman was identified as Joyce Chiriboga, of the 7700 block of West Rascher Avenue, according to a Cook County medical examiner’s office spokesman.
Man dies in crash
A 30-year-old man died when he lost control of his vehicle Sunday and crashed into a fence, police said. Ivan Guzman was heading east on West 55th Street near South St. Louis Avenue when he lost control on railroad tracks, police said. Guzman, of the 5100 block of South Lawndale Avenue, was ejected from the vehicle.
Police shoot 2 men
An armed man was shot and killed by police Saturday hours before a second man was wounded by officers in separate incidents on the South Side, a Chicago police spokesman said. About 8:40 p.m. Saturday, an officer killed an armed man who confronted the officer in Bronzeville, authorities said. The second shooting was about 12:45 a.m. Sunday in Woodlawn, police said.
More charges in acid attack
Four more people have been charged in connection with a July attack in which sulfuric acid was thrown in a woman’s face during a robbery in Logan Square, police said Sunday. The four suspects — three adults and a 16-year-old boy — were charged with armed robbery and heinous battery in connection with the July 28 attack in which a 48-year-old woman suffered burns on a quarter of her body, police said.
4 rescued from fire
Chicago firefighters rescued four people after a fire swept through an apartment building Sunday morning in Rogers Park. The blaze broke out shortly before 5:45 a.m. in a three-story building in the 7500 block of North Ridge Boulevard. Using ladders, firefighters helped the residents down and took them to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston to be treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.
