Got a minute? Smart ways to spend an unexpected break in your busy day.

Recycle with ease

If you live in a community with a reliable recycling program, take a minute to give thanks. If you’re still stuck using blue bags, take a minute to log on to cityofchicago.org and find the recycling drop-off center closest to your home. Sixteen sites across the city accept a full range of recyclables (including plastics No. 1-5 and 7) and you don’t even have to sort them.

Honor World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is Dec. 1. Connect with an HIV-positive woman in Africa by buying a piece of hand-made jewelry or hosting a “bead party” through Bead for Life, an organization that helps Ugandan women earn income and learn business skills. Find details at beadforlife.org.
