An Aurora man who was acquitted this year of murder charges pleaded guilty Monday to a weapons offense in connection with another fatal shooting.
Shane B. Lopez was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in Kane County court to aggravated discharge of a firearm in the 1996 death of Curtis Thompson. Lopez, 33, and Albert Lucio were accused of shooting Thompson, whom they mistakenly believed was a rival gang member. Lucio had been sentenced to 32 years for the slaying. In August, a judge acquitted Lopez of another slaying that happened days before Thompson’s murder.
