Council OKs deal for Olympic site

The Chicago City Council voted 48-0 on Wednesday to approve a deal for the city to buy the 37-acre Michael Reese Hospital site for $86 million as part of the city’s bid for the 2016 Olympics. The Daley administration hopes to use the site as the Olympic Village and then transform it into a mixed-use development with affordable housing. Chicago is one of four finalists for the 2016 Olympics, with a decision expected in October.

Archdiocese to pay $1.2 million

A teenage boy and his mother will receive $1.2 million from the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago for sexual abuse the boy suffered at the hands of Daniel McCormack, a lawyer for the victims said Wednesday. The agreement is the most recent settlement reached between the archdiocese and a victim of McCormack, the former pastor of St. Agatha Catholic Church, who pleaded guilty last year to fondling five boys ages 8 to 12 at St. Agatha.

Man shot, killed on Hyde Park street

A man was killed late Tuesday in what might be a gang-related shooting on a Hyde Park street, police said Wednesday. Officers found a man later identified as Cydrell Bragg, 28, lying in the 1600 block of East 53rd Street with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Chicago Police Officer Daniel O’Brien said the victim and a companion approached a group of people and an argument erupted. Police said the man had gang affiliations.

Man charged in bank heist

A 27-year-old man shot by an FBI agent near the Chicago Water Tower on Monday has been charged with robbing a North Side bank. Steven Boyd was shot when he took control of an FBI vehicle and tried to run over an agent, officials said. Boyd is chargedwith the holdup of a TCF Bank branch on North Sheridan Road near Montrose Avenue,the FBI said.
