A redesign has made a good Murano a little better with, among other things, 25 more h.p. It has a new and more communicative steering system similar to that in Altima, and a choppy and odd-looking but ergonomically effective dashboard. I was unhappy with the wind noise at highway speeds.

Compared to the new Murano, the lava-breathing GT-R has the countenance of the Buddha. I like the reclining rear seats; the rear seat lever releases, which allow you to drop the seats while loading; and the power return.

The handsome, futuristic 2003 Nissan Murano set a design standard for crossover SUVs, with its influence obvious in subsequent models such as the Ford Edge. The 2009? Hey, not so bad. Inside, the 2009 is a definite improvement. The front buckets, while comfortable, could use some side bolstering.
