All holiday decor is deeply discounted at Grand Street Gardens and other inventory is on sale through Dec. 31. The store at the edge of Ukrainian Village will be closed Thursday to Jan. 8 for a revamp, says landscape czarina Christy Webber, who bought it last fall. The shop has been known for a wide selection of containers, as well as organic gardening supplies and pet foods. Webber, who built a one-woman, one-pickup-truck business into one of Chicago’s largest landscape firms with a 12.5-acre sustainably designed headquarters on a reclaimed West Side brownfield, is not known to dream small, so even in hard times we can’t wait to see what she will do with this urban-garden center.
Grand Street Gardens, 2200 W. Grand Ave., 312-829-8200. Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 31, grandstreetgardens.com.

From the village of Skokie to Skokie Boulevard: That’s the trajectory of 50-year-old family-owned business Design Studio Furniture, which in November moved to its new Northbrook location. The 15,000-square-foot showroom is significantly scaled down from its former 45,000-square-feet in Skokie but still offers the same in-house Interior Design Center and contemporary home furnishings. The new address keeps the business’ locations at three, with one store downtown and a warehouse outlet in Elk Grove.
