‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’
7 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7
A popular attraction at Disney theme parks comes to life in this eye-filling 2003 adventure, which succeeds because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Johnny Depp (left) proves to be inspired casting as Jack Sparrow, a pirate enlisted by a young man (Orlando Bloom) whose true love (Keira Knightley, “Bend It Like Beckham”) has been abducted by an accursed buccaneer (Geoffrey Rush). The special effects deserve equal billing with the actors.
‘Le Cirque: A Table in Heaven’
7 p.m., HBO
This new documentary tells the colorful story of one of New York’s premier restaurants, which has occupied three different Manhattan locations since opening in 1974. The film follows owner Sirio Maccioni and his sons as they move the restaurant to a new location in the Bloomberg building on East 58th Street.
‘Ron Howard: 50 Years in Film’

Before he was Opie Taylor, little Ronny Howard made his screen debut in a bit part in the 1956 western “Frontier Woman.” In this special, the child star who grew up to be a Hollywood heavy hitter talks about his half-century in showbiz, from his early film roles to his starmaking turn on “The Andy Griffith Show,” his years on “Happy Days” and his directing career, which includes an Oscar-winning stint behind the camera of 2001’s “A Beautiful Mind.”
