Pontiac tournament

No. 8 Warren 74, No. 12 Schaumburg 63
Brandon Paul scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to lead Warren to the Pontiac Holiday Tournament championship. The Warriors, who lost to Simeon in the 2005 and ’06 title games, improved to 10-1. Senior guard Cully Payne scored 25 points for Schaumburg, which suffered its first loss and is 13-1.

Third-place game
Plainfield North 41, Curie 38
Chris McMath had 15 points (6-for-6 from the field), seven rebounds and four steals and Scott Vachon added 10 points and seven boards as Plainfield (13-2) built a nine-point halftime lead and held on to take third place. Wayne Blackshear led Curie (7-4) with 11 points and eight rebounds.

No. 8 Warren 51, No. 20 Curie 48 (OT)
Warren outscored Curie 7-4 in overtime to advance to the title game. A basket by Curie sophomore Wayne Blackshear with :42 seconds to play forced the extra session. After not scoring in the fourth quarter, Warren’s Brandon Paul scored five of his game-high 17 points in overtime, including two free throws with 29.2 seconds left to give Warren a 50-48 lead. Blackshear overcame early foul trouble to lead the Condors with 14 points. Jeremy Price added 13 and Dennis Hodges 11.

No. 12 Schaumburg 50, Plainfield North 48
Cully Payne’s hit a 25-foot three-pointer with :0.8 seconds left to lift No. 12 Schaumburg into the championship game. Payne finished with 27 points on 10-for-21 shooting, including 5-for-9 from three-point range. Teammate Justin Swiercz also made five threes and scored 20 points for the Saxons. Reggie Lemon led Plainfield North with 11 points and three steals, while Chris McMath, Ryan Crow and Scott Vachon added 10 apiece.

Simeon 60, Peoria Manual 47
The three-time defending champion Wolverines settled for fifth place. Jasper Golden and Jeremy Jones scored 16 points apeiece for No. 13 Simeon (5-6), which rebounded from Tuesday’s quarterfinal loss to Curie with two straight victories. Golden registered six steals. Peoria’s Brandon Watson led all scorers with 18 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field.

Consolation championship
West Aurora 52, Oak Park 46

Juwan Starks 17-point effort (9-for-9 free throws) led West Aurora to the consolation championship. Teammate Marcus Cocroft scored 10, and Jamal Blackmond registered four steals.

West Aurora 53, Niles West 39
Marcus Cocroft registered 12 points and five steals as West Aurora jumped out to an 11-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Niles West’s Danny Zahos led all scorers with 13 points.

Oak Park 44, Danville 34
Oak Park advanced to the consolation title game behind Andrew Godbold’s 16 points (7-for-10 shooting) and 10 from De’Angelo Speech. Joey Robinson led Danville with 11 points.

St. Mel outscored De Sales 17-1 in the fourth quarter to take fifth place in the tournament. Adija Brown led the winners with 22 points and Brasia Braboy added 18. Janelle Barnes scored 15 and Jessica Jose 10 for De Sales.

CICS Longwood 54, Morgan Park Academy 36 (3rd)
Shakiyla Carradine scored 17 points and Paige Kenniel added 11 for Longwood, which took third.

Tinley Park 52, Ag Science 36 (title)
Sara Fencl’s 30-point effort helped Tinley Park win the championship. Lawren McKinnis scored 18 to lead Ag Science.
