After months of silence about the Cubs, Mark Cuban said he’s slowed his pursuit of the team.
In a post on his blog (blogmaverick.com) Tuesday, Cuban said he’s still interested in buying the Cubs if the team’s owner, Tribune Co., can’t work out a deal with the other bidders.
“So when it came down to it, I did what I thought was the only smart thing to do. I asked for an extension. I knew that if they got the money they wanted for the team, well my bid was not going to be high enough anyway. If they didn’t, or the other bidders couldn’t come up with their money, they would come back to me,” Cuban wrote. “I’m still waiting.”
Tribune Co. is close to selecting a winning bid from three it received at the end of November, sources have told the Chicago Tribune.
Gary Weitman, a Tribune spokesman, declined to comment.
