More peanut butter pulled
General Mills and grocers Kroger and Safeway have joined the growing list of food companies and retailers pulling items made with peanut butter amid a salmonella outbreak. The government has advised consumers to avoid eating foods containing peanut butter until health officials learn more about the contamination.
Racine sex scandal
The mayor of Racine, Wis., resigned Tuesday, days after being accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he thought was an underage girl. Mayor Gary Becker resigned, effective 5 p.m. Tuesday, in a one-sentence letter that made no reference to the six felonies he faces.
Engine search continues
Crews searching the frigid, murky Hudson River for debris from US Airways Flight 1549 have turned up shoes, hats and flotation devices, but the location of the missing left engine remains unknown. The Airbus A320 crash-landed in the Hudson on Thursday; 155 people on board survived.
California quakes
Several small earthquakes have rattled the same area of Northern California in recent days. Seismologist Jessica Sigala of the U.S. Geological Survey says the four largest temblors struck late Monday and early Tuesday. They ranged from magnitude-3.5 to magnitude-3.8; all were centered near the city of Tres Pinos, about 50 miles south of San Jose.

Raleigh, N.C., Web developer George Huger says he turned $5 into $35,000 when he bought the expired Internet domain name for former President George W. Bush’s presidential library (georgewbushlibrary.com) and sold it back two years later.
