Providence plans to beef up security at basketball games after the brother of guard Jeff Xavier walked onto the court to confront a referee during a game against Marquette on Saturday.
Officials said uniformed Providence police officers will now be positioned behind team benches during games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and that more security guards would also be used.
Jonathan Xavier was upset no foul was called after his brother was scraped in the face while driving to the basket in the second half of the Friars’ 91-82 loss.
*Iowa freshman guard Anthony Tucker will miss the second semester due to academic ineligibility. Tucker started eight of 14 games played this season, averaging 10.4 points per game.
