Tiki Terrace, $6.25

591 Lee St., Des Plaines 847-795-8454

Don’t be fooled by Tiki Terrace’s suburban strip mall location. It takes its tiki seriously. It’s got a high-energy floor show on the weekends (reservations are a must), a tastefully decked-out interior and one hell of a mai tai.

Made with: Fresh fruit juices, light rum, orange curacao and topped with dark rum. It’s served in a festive tiki glass and garnished with a pineapple and orange slice.

Hala Kahiki, $6.50

2834 River Rd., River Grove 708-456-3222

A tiki bar institution if there ever was one, Hala Kahiki continues to pack ’em in on weekend nights. The menu offers quantity over quality, so if you’re left a little cold by your mai tai (as we were), try a pink squirrel. Where else can you do that?

Made with: The menu tells us it’s made with rum and that’s all we’re getting. The bartenders like to keep their recipe a secret.
