*”Momma’s Man” **** (U.S.; Azazel Jacobs, 2008) In Jacobs’ small, sure miracle of a film, the writer-director casts his real-life parents, Ken and Flo Jacobs, as the parents of Mikey (Matt Boren), a doughy, 30ish fellow who visits his native Manhattan from his newfound land of L.A. 7:30 p.m. Mon.

*”Dames” *** (U.S.; Ray Enright and Busby Berkeley, 1934) “Dames” at first seems like another “Let’s put on a show” musical with dimpled Dick Powell as a would-be show biz king, twinkle-toed Ruby Keeler as his tap-dancing muse and Hugh Herbert, Guy Kibbee and ZaSu Pitts as comic relief. But once the Berkeley numbers start, including the multiple-Ruby “I Only Have Eyes for You” and that kaleidoscopic, Busbyesque ode to chorus girl pulchritude, “Dames,” it’s all uphill and all roses. 8 p.m. Sat.

*”A Hard Day’s Night” **** (U.S.; Richard Lester, 1964) No movie of the 1960s catches that era’s exuberance more than Lester’s black-and-white Beatlemania saga. Framed as a comically fictionalized day in the life of the Fab Four, it’s one of the most excitingly contemporary musicals ever. 8 p.m Wed.
