Batavia 63, DeKalb 58: After falling behind 11-0, Batavia stormed back behind three three-pointers from David Bryant and led 17-16 after one quarter. The Bulldogs (13-6, 6-3 Western Sun) never relinquished the lead in snapping DeKalb’s 10-game winning streak. Bryant finished with 29 points and six rebounds and Ricky Clopton added 10 points and eight boards. Jordan Threloff led all players with 31 points and 16 rebounds for DeKalb (12-7, 7-2).
No. 16 Lake Forest 84, Mundelein 66: Junior guard Mitch Hopfinger scored 10 of his 28 points in the first quarter as Lake Forest cruised to the North Suburban Lake victory. The Scouts (16-3, 8-1) used a 20-9 first-quarter run to take control. Senior guards Matt Vogrich and Kevin Berardini scored 19 apiece for Lake Forest. Mundelein (9-13, 1-7) was led by sophomore guard Leavon Head’s 19 points.
Girls
No. 2 Bolingbrook 60, Indianapolis Heritage Christian 56: The Raiders (15-4) pulled off a feat that eluded top-ranked Young, handing host Heritage Christian, the fifth-ranked team in the latest USA Today Super 25, its first defeat. Ariel Massengale led the way 25 points and six assists, freshman Morgan Tuck added 10 points and eight rebounds and Satavia Taylor had 12 points. Heritage defeated Young 66-64 on Dec. 5.
No. 1 Young 77, Lane 24: In the Public Windy City quarterfinals, the Dolphins (24-1) jumped to a 17-2 lead in the game’s first 4 1/2 minutes and never looked back. Eleven of 12 Young players scored, led by Pittsburgh-bound Ashlee Anderson (16 points), sophomore point guard Chanise Jenkins (13) and Laquita Garner (10). Maria Joyce led Lane (13-13) with eight points.
No. 15 Marshall 58, Morgan Park 35: Marshall (20-5) earned a Windy City semifinal date with Young. The Commandos led only 17-14 midway through the second but ended the half with an 11-4 run for a 28-18 halftime advantage. Marshall then outscored the Mustangs 16-3 in the third to put the game away. Illinois-bound Adrienne GodBold scored 17 of her game-high 24 points in the middle two quarters and had six steals and six rebounds to lead Marshall. For Morgan Park (18-8), forward Kendyl Nunn had 19 points and 12 boards.
