Check it out if you … Want to learn more about the history of Hyde Park’s buildings, are interested in architect Frank Lloyd Wright but don’t want to head to the suburbs to see his work, would like to see how a century-old building is being maintained.
The details: Take an hourlong guided tour through the interior of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Even though it was completed 99 years ago, Robie House still is considered a masterpiece of modern architecture. Renovations are continuing through October, so you can witness the restoration of the structure to its original state. Located on the University of Chicago campus, Robie House brings out an eclectic crowd — from families to serious architecture geeks to folks just interested in the Prairie-style home. The interior tour is $12, and for an extra $8 you can take an audio-guided walking tour that goes over the architecture and design influences of the rest of the neighborhood.
The payoff: Getting some South Side historical pride.
