No word yet on how the stimulus bill just approved by Congress would affect Chicago road projects and problematic intersections. “The city will be pursuing a wide variety of roadway, bridge and transit projects,” said Chicago Department of Transportation spokesman Brian Steele. “Those projects will undoubtedly include traffic-safety elements.” RedEye asked its Twitter followers what intersection they would fix.
@kitmueller Grand/Milwaukee/Halsted. With pedestrian bridges (funded [through] texting-while-driving fines).
@kara_jake Clark/Halsted/Barry. The [No. 22-Clark bus] stop should be on the north side of Barry and not in front of Clark Dog.
@Bri415 Halsted and Roosevelt. Long walking signal for the intersection.
@ajlovestolose Worst for walkers? Hollywood/LSD/Sheridan. Need better/easier 2 C traffic lights for drivers and longer-timed crosswalk for walkers.
@olivial Michigan & Wacker has gotten pretty bad now that the west bridge is closed and people cross on the northern side of the street.
@pschley Fullerton & Seminary (going north from DePaul quad). Nobody stops for pedestrians. It desperately needs Yield signs!
@Jaydah North/Milwaukee/Damen. Restrict turns during certain hours, [add] time-delayed stop lights.
@fiveoutstogo Orleans and Ontario. NOBODY stops on red heading west onto the expressway. Impossible to fix. Keep your head on a swivel!
@thehotiron The worst is LSD and Monroe, and it should have a tunnel.
@dkmann Lincoln, Belmont and Ashland is one. Better crosswalks and audio cues/warning for pedestrians would help.
