Bomb threat at DePaul
The library on DePaul University’s Lincoln Park campus was evacuated Thursday morning following a bomb threat, university officials said. The university said the threat only affected the John T. Richardson Library, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., said Denise Mattson, a DePaul spokeswoman. The library was evacuated about 11:30 a.m. and reopened at 2:30 p.m., she said. Mattson said the university notified students via its public address systems. An e-mail alsowas sent to faculty, staff and student employees, she said.
Teen found slain in vacant lot ID’d
An 18-year-old man found fatally shot in a vacant lot on the South Side Wednesday was identified Thursday. Police responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of West 58th Street about 1:15 p.m., said police spokeswoman Officer JoAnn Taylor. The officers found emergency medical technicians trying to save Aaron Williams’ life, authorities said. Williams, of the 1300 block of West 56th Street, was shot in the head and died on the scene.
Homeless man fights for ballot spot
A man barred from running for elective office because he’s homeless has filed an appeal of the decision to keep him off the ballot in Oak Park. On Thursday, Daniel Fore filed both a petition seeking a judicial review of the decision and an emergency motion for an expedited hearing. Fore’s attorneys said nothing in the law bars homeless people from ballot access just because they’re homeless.
Santa Claus is coming to court
A woman who claims a drunken man in a Santa suit stumbled and fell on top of her, knocking her face-first into the sidewalk, is taking the man to court. Antoinette Basso filed suit Thursday against Daniel Aulwes, claiming negligence and negligent battery for the Dec. 7, 2008, incident outside a restaurant in the 1000 block of West Monroe Street. She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
