Boys

No. 17 Rich East 52, Bloom 44: Host Rich East clinched at least a share of its first SICA South crown since 1988. The Rockets (19-5, 8-1) led 25-15 at the half, but a putback from senior center Aaron Nelson (game-high 18 points) capped a 19-5 third quarter and put Bloom (16-8, 7-2) ahead 34-30 heading into the fourth. A 12-0 burst turned a 37-36 Rich East deficit into a commanding 48-37 lead. Junior Kashaune McKinney had a team-high 17 points and Shea Sumpter 12 for Rich East.

No. 16 Naperville Central 62, Wheaton Warrenville South 57 (OT): Naperville Central (22-2, 12-0 DuPage Valley) got 27 points from Drew Crawford, who converted 6 of 7 free throws in overtime. For Wheaton South (15-9, 6-6), Riley O’Toole, a 6-3 sophomore guard, scored 26 of his game-high 31 in the second half, including a 15-foot jumper with :03.5 left to force OT.

Bolingbrook 57, Joliet 55: Bolingbrook clinched the SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference title despite a second-half Joliet surge that cut the Raiders’ lead from 32-15 early in the third quarter to 50-44 in the final two minutes. But four free throws from Delorean Weatherall (16 points) and three free throws by Diamond Taylor (11 points) sealed the victory. Forward Troy Snyder added 15 points for Bolingbrook (17-6, 6-1), including nine in the final quarter. Junior forward Anthony Shoemaker led Joliet (17-6, 3-3) with 24 points.

Proviso West 62, Hinsdale Central 61: The host Panthers (19-6, 10-2) trailed by as many as seven in the second half before forward Donate Moore took over. The senior scored 15 of his 19 points after halftime, including a decisive free throw with :05.6 remaining, as Proviso West captured its first outright West Suburban Silver crown since 1997. After falling back by seven, Hinsdale (12-11, 6-4) came back to tie at 61-61 with :26 left on a three by junior guard John Whitelaw (19 points). After Moore’s free throw, Hinsdale had a chance to win, but Jason Raferty’s drive resulted in a missed desperation shot.

Schaumburg 50, Hoffman Estates 46: With his team up 48-46, Schaumburg guard Declan Geraghty turned the ball over with :11.5 to play. But then he picked off a pass, was fouled and sank two free throws with :03.2 left to give the host Saxons (20-5, 7-3) the Mid-Suburban West title. Schaumburg had beaten Hoffman (18-7, 7-3) earlier in the season as well. Guard Perrish Bell (15 points) and forward Blake Mueller (10) led Schaumburg. Luke Mead’s 22 points led Hoffman.
