The same year that the Supreme Court handed down its historic Brown vs. Board of Education verdict, it decided another landmark civil rights case. This episode recounts the struggle of Texas field hand Pete Hernandez and his lawyers to get him a fair trial for the murder of his employer. At the time, equal protection covered only blacks and whites, not Mexican-Americans. The high court’s decision changed that.
