Into extreme sports? Get ready to run. The third Death Race is slated for June 27 in Pittsfield, Vt.
Designed to be the toughest race in the world, it leads runners through barbed wire, mud, tunnels and other hurdles. Last year, only eight of the 50 entrants ran the entire course. The entry fee is $60 until March 15 and $75 thereafter. Go to peakraces.com.
Peak Races, the organizers of the endurance event, offers a May 1-3 Death Camp to prepare participants for the race. Located on a farm near Pittsfield, the Death Camp promises at least 30 hours of grueling training for a $200 fee, with lodging and a dinner. Winners of previous Death Races will be on hand to provide encouragement and inspiration.
Waikiki hotel special
Waikiki’s newly remodeled Outrigger Reef on the Beach (above) features a bevy of room packages, among them a Reopening Special with a standard room for $159 per night plus tax, valid through Dec. 21. The special also is good at the hotel’s sister property, the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach.
As their names suggest, both hotels offer immediate access to the world-famous surf and sand of Waikiki. Call 800-OUTRIGGER or visit outrigger.com.
