Up in Mettawa, between Lake Forest and Vernon Hills, incumbent Barry MacLean and challenger Jess Ray finished with 143 votes apiece after Tuesday’s election for village president. There still are some absentee votes left to be counted, but if they don’t yield a winner when they’re tallied April 21, the contest will be resolved by the flip of a coin.
