Justin Timberlake’s ridiculous new game show “The Phone” debuts Tuesday on MTV.

Judging from previews, its basic premise is to scare the living bejesus out of twentysomethings by putting them in explosive and dangerous-looking situations. Of course, they appear to be under the impression that unless they follow directions very, very carefully, something disastrous could happen.

Long story short: The Timberlake-produced project looks hilarious. Mostly because MTV is taking a serious tone with its promotions for the show, using heavy-hitting industrial music over clips of explosions, helicopters, snakes and — of course — planes. We think the previews could have benefited from something a little more, well, phone-oriented. Nobody asked us, but these songs would be perfect for the opening credits.
