A hazardous weather outlook for much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana was issued this morning by the National Weather Service, with the possibility of scattered thunderstorms that may produce nickel-size hail, wind gusts of up to 60 m.p.h. and possible flooding.
New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible, mainly after 1 p.m., according to the weather service.
A flood warning was issued for the Des Plaines River near Des Plaines for this evening to Thursday afternoon. At 4:45 a.m., the river was at 4.3 feet. Flood stage is 5 feet, and the water is expected to rise to near 5.6 feet by Tuesday evening.
The chance of precipitation today is 80 percent.
Non-thunderstorm wind gusts up to 45 m.p.h. also are predicted.
Today’s high will be near 75.
