Charges in officer’s death
Two people have been charged in the shooting deathof Chicago Police Officer Alejandro “Alex” Valadez, police said Tuesday. Charged were Kevin Walker, 21, and Shawn Gaston, 20, police said. Valadez, a plainclothes Chicago police officer, died Monday after being shot in the head in West Englewood.
Forever robbed
Forever 21 was robbed Tuesday, the second robbery in a two-week period for the store on the Magnificent Mile. The robbery occurred at 2:22 p.m. at 540 N. Michigan Ave., according to Chicago police. The robber, described as a man in his 30s, got away with an undisclosed sum of cash. On May 21, the same store was robbed of $15,000.
Division Street Bridge closed
The Division Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to westbound traffic until July 3, city officials said Tuesday. The bridge, which is undergoing repairs, will remain open to eastbound traffic, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation. The detour for westbound Division traffic is Halsted Street north to North Avenue, west to Elston Avenue, and back to Division.
Cop charged in hit-and-run posts bail
The off-duty Chicago police officer charged in the hit-and-run collision that killed a 13-year-old South Side boy late last month walked out of Cook County Jail on Tuesday after posting bond. Richard Bolling, 39, had been in custody 11 days. He was charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a crash in connection with the death of 8th grader Trenton Booker.
