Oakland 7, White Sox 0
It will take more than Gordon Beckham to cure a White Sox offense that has produced astonishingly feeble numbers at hitter-friendly U.S. Cellular Field.
In the wake of the hoopla over third baseman Beckham, who went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Thursday in his major-league debut, the Sox found themselves searching for remedies after a 7-0 loss to Oakland.
“Our record (25-28) is exactly what it should be, really,” Paul Konerko said calmly after the Sox were blanked for a major league-leading eighth time. “In fact, it might be a little better than it should be.
“We have to pick it up a bit, and we seem like we always do. Last year the team was very similar. It’s a little different case this year. We have younger guys we’re rolling out there. There’s still a ton of time to do it. Right now, [our play] is not going to cut it in the long run.”
