Fare and unfair

What your airline ticket actually gets you is dwindling all the time. Many carriers already ask you to cough up more to eat, stretch your legs or check a bag. Now, on one European airline, going to the bathroom will also hit you in the wallet. Budget carrier Ryanair has asked Boeing to put credit card readers on the bathroom locks of its new planes. The airline also plans to eliminate two toilets on the planes and replace them with six additional seats, which means more passengers will stand in line longer for the privilege of paying to potty. This can’t be good for beverage cart sales.

Paternal penguins

Two gay male penguins in Germany are raising a chick as their own. A Bremerhaven zoo veterinarian says the baby penguin was hatched from an egg that was put in the male penguins’ nest after being abandoned by its parents. The adoptive parents, Z and Vielpunkt, incubated the egg for roughly 30 days before it hatched. The veterinarian says Z and Vielpunkt are one of three same-sex pairs at the zoo.

For him the bell tolls

A Phoenix bishop has received a 10-day suspended sentence because his church’s bells violated a city noise ordinance. Bishop Richard Painter of Cathedral of Christ the King in northwest Phoenix says he plans to appeal. And you know God is on his side.

Seriously?

Gurkha Cigars is touting its $750 His Majesty’s Reserve as “the ideal Father’s Day gift.” In the middle of a recession? Here’s a better idea: Just roll up a $50 bill, smoke it and save yourself 700 bucks.
