Red Sox 6, Tigers 3: Jason Bay’s two-run double keyed six-run third inning as Boston finished off a three-game sweep in Detroit. Tim Wakefield beat the Tigers for the 16th time in his career.
Angels 6, Blue Jays 5: Howie Kendrick scored the tiebreaking run on a ninth-inning double play as Los Angeles escaped. Alex Rios was 0-for-5 with five strikeouts for Toronto, which has lost 12 of 15.
Yankees 8, Rangers 6: Melky Cabrera hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning as New York rallied from a 5-1 deficit to take two of three from the AL West leaders.
Twins 11, Indians 3: Jason Kubel hit a pair of three-run homers and Justin Morneau added his 15th home run of the year and drove in three runs for Minnesota.
Athletics 7, White Sox 0: Jason Giambi clubbed a three-run homer off Mark Buehrle as Oakland took three of four in Chicago. Brett Anderson scattered six hits over seven innings for the A’s.
Rays 3, Royals 2: B.J. Upton hit a go-ahead two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning off Jamey Wright as Tampa Bay finished a three-game sweep.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Pirates 11, Mets 6: Jason Jaramillo drove in a career-high four runs and Andrew McCutchen scored three runs and stole a base in his major-league debut as Pittsburgh finished off a three-game sweep.
Marlins 4, Brewers 3: Josh Johnson hit a three-run homer and scattered five hits and two runs over 7 2/3 innings to earn his fifth win. Prince Fielder drove in all three Milwaukee runs.
Cardinals 3, Reds 1: Chris Carpenter allowed just three hits in a complete game for St. Louis, which got a two-run homer and three RBIs from Albert Pujols.
Rockies 10, Astros 3: Garrett Atkins hit two of Colorado’s four homers as the Rockies snapped a four-game skid. Ryan Spilborghs and Brad Hawpe also went deep.
Giants 5, Nationals 1 (Game 1): Juan Uribe’s RBI groundout and Emmanuel Burriss’ RBI single in the second opened the scoring for San Francisco, which got three insurance tallies in the ninth.
Giants 4, Nationals 1 (Game 2): Matt Cain struck out seven in five innings as San Francisco earned the sweep in a game that was called in the sixth due to rain.
Phillies at Dodgers, late: Philadelphia entered Thursday’s NLCS rematch with six straight wins. Cole Hamels went 2-0 in that series last year.
Cubs at Braves, ppd.: The game was called due to rain after a wait of nearly 2 1/2 hours. Chicago’s Carlos Zambrano will return from his six-game suspension on Friday.
