Cubs 6, Cincinnati 3 (14 innings)
Alfonso Soriano’s opposite-field home run off Mike Lincoln snapped a tie in the 14th inning on Sunday, launching the Cubs to a 6-3 win over the Reds.
After Carlos Marmol’s control issues cost Randy Wells his first major-league win and forced the Cubs into their fourth extra-inning affair in their last five games, Soriano launched a leadoff homer into the right-field seats in the 14th to give the Cubs the lead.
They wound up scoring two more runs in the inning on an RBI single by Mike Fontenot and Reed Johnson’s RBI double, the first time the Cubs have scored more than two runs in an inning in a 66-inning span over their last six games.
David Patton earned the win in relief and Angel Guzman finished it off.
