Futile Cubs back
ATLANTA The Cubs saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on their one-day trip to Atlanta, the offense back to not producing at key times. After their 2-0 loss to the Braves, the Cubs headed back north to open a three-game interleague series in Detroit.
Deng running again
Bulls general manager Gar Forman said Luol Deng has started running after a stress fracture in Deng’s right tibia sidelined the forward for the final 22 games of the regular season and the playoffs. “He’s been [at the Berto Center] working some,” Forman said. Forward Tyrus Thomas is wearing an air cast for two to three weeks to immobilize a sore wrist. The injury isn’t serious.
Chelios released
Chris Chelios’ playing days with the Detroit Red Wings are over. General Manager Ken Holland met with the 47-year-old defenseman on Monday. “I told him we would not be offering him a contract,” Holland said. “He wants to play again. I really think that he does have another year in him.”
