In-home Sustainable Cooking Classes with chef Melissa Graham

773-991-1920, monogrammeevents.com

Check it out if you … want to cook dishes that are good for you and the Earth, are looking for a party idea for your food-loving friends, like classes you can schedule instead of scheduling around.

The deets: Melissa Graham, one of the chairs of Green City Market, offers group classes about how to become green at home by using eco-friendly ingredients and avoiding waste. Options include a budget cooking class featuring tips on how to find savings when grocery shopping and wallet-friendly recipes that make good leftovers; a class on how to keep your kitchen well-stocked and shortcuts you can use to whip up a meal on the fly; and a session that takes students to Green City Market, where they learn how to cook with what’s in season and meet local farmers. The classes are $20 to $25, with a 10- to 15-person minimum. If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, try the sustainable evening session. The 6- to 10-person class costs $100 a head but includes a full dinner with optional wine pairings.

The payoff: Feeling more confident putting away the takeout menus and picking up a pan.
