*NBA: Point guard Jannero Pargo met with the Bulls on Saturday about helping take up some of the scoring slack with the departure of Ben Gordon to the Pistons, a Bulls source confirmed. Pargo, a former Robeson star, played three seasons with the Bulls before leaving for the Hornets. Last season he played for the Russian club Dynamo Moscow.

*AUTO RACING: Ryan Briscoe won the pole for Sunday’s Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Briscoe won his second straight pole on the 11-curve, 3.4-mile road course with a time of 1 minute 28.5970 seconds, breaking the track record held by Helio Castroneves by more than a second.

*HORSE RACING: Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will ride Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird in the $750,000 West Virginia Derby and the $1 million Travers Stakes next month. … Presious Passion scored a repeat victory in the $750,000 United Nations Stakes, smashing the course record at Monmouth Park.
