Romo puts himself in Peyton’s place

Tony Romo would love to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Peyton Manning. Romo may also be after some of Manning’s thespian accomplishments.

The Cowboys QB is starring in an online video spoof, endorsing a few tongue-in-cheek items. It smacks of Manning being the tongue-in-cheek pitchman for many products, which earned him a guest-host gig on “Saturday Night Live.”

The video, provided Thursday to the Associated Press by funnyordie.com, opens with Romo alone on a football field, in a shirt and a cap with the logo of one of his real sponsors, Starter, which also sponsored the video. He says you might not have realized he endorses some “50,000” products — including gasoline that tastes like chocolate and vice versa.

Romo also pokes fun at the tabloids that have covered his love life. Romo received no fee.

Driver calls out Bears’ receivers

Training camp hasn’t begun, but the Bears already have bulletin-board material for their season opener in Green Bay.

In a national radio interview, Packers receiver Donald Driver made a candid assessment of the Bears’ receiving corps.

“I think Chicago did a great job, and Lovie Smith went out there and got Jay Cutler to lead this team, but one thing they don’t have is they don’t have the receiver group,” Driver said on Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday. “They have the running back, they have the offensive line and they have a great defense.

“But you’re going to have to need receivers to make plays down the field, and they don’t have that right now.”

Police catch up to Walker in casino

Chicago native and former NBA star Antoine Walker was arrested Thursday morning at Harrah’s Casino at Stateline, Nev., on a felony arrest warrant charging him with passing checks and obtaining credit with non-sufficient funds in Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Appeal in Carson City. Walker is accused of owing three Las Vegas casinos more than $800,000.

Walker’s original bail was set at $905,050, cash only, but later had it reduced to $135,000 and has since been released, the paper reported. He is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday. Walker was in South Lake Tahoe for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.

According to police, a Harrah’s employee who had seen a TV news report on Walker approached a deputy on foot patrol. Walker was then arrested at a bar in the casino, the paper reported.
