AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 2, Orioles 1: Hideki Matsui hit a game-winning homer in the ninth as New York won its fourth straight. Andy Pettitte kept the Yankees in the game by striking out eight in 7 1/3 innings.
Rangers 6, Red Sox 3: Michael Young, David Murphy and Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered in a five-run sixth for Texas. John Smoltz took the loss for Boston, now tied for first in the AL East.
White Sox 4, Rays 3: Paul Konerko hit a three run homer as Chicago moved to within one game of first-place Detroit in the AL Central. Tampa Bay hit three solo homers, including Carl Crawford’s inside-the-park shot.
Twins at Athletics: Minnesota outfielder Carlos Gomez is hitting .323 in July with nine RBIs and six runs scored. Oakland has 19 stolen bases in July and 29 steals in its last 27 games.
Angels at Royals, ppd.: The game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Mets 6, Nationals 2: Daniel Murphy had an RBI double and an RBI single in consecutive innings, and Livan Hernandez snapped a five-start losing streak. Jeff Francoeur hit his first homer as a member of the Mets.
Phillies 10, Cubs 1: Raul Ibanez hit a three-run homer in the first as Philadelphia coasted to its ninth straight win. Carlos Ruiz and Ryan Howard also homered. Chicago’s winning streak ended at four.
Braves 11, Giants 3: Matt Diaz hit a two-run triple and Ryan Church added a two-run homer in a six-run seventh for Atlanta. Tommy Hanson struck out 11 to improve to 5-0 for the Braves.
Astros 3, Cardinals 2: Carlos Lee hit a three-run homer in the fourth as Houston defeated St.Louis for the first time this season. Yadier Molina had a two-run single for the Cardinals.
Rockies 10, Diamondbacks 6: Jorge De La Rosa scattered four hits over seven innings to win for the seventh time in his last eight decisions. He also had two hits and two RBIs.
Pirates 8, Brewers 5: Delwyn Young hit a three-run homer and Garrett Jones added a solo shot as Pittsburgh snapped a 17-game losing streak to Milwaukee, which got a homer from Ryan Braun.
Marlins at Padres: Florida’s Rick VandenHurk made his first start of the season. He has 21 career starts, going 5-7 with a 6.96 ERA. Tim Stauffer made his second start of the year for San Diego.
Reds at Dodgers: Los Angeles’ Jason Schmidt made his first big-league start since June 16, 2007, after two shoulder surgeries. Cincinnati is 0-9 at Dodger Stadium the last three years.
