A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for central Cook County, including Chicago, until 5:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm was reported in Chicago’s northwest suburbs just before 5:15 p.m., hitting Harwood Heights and headed for Elmwood Park and the city neighborhoods of Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Lakeview and Lincoln Park before the warning expires, the weather service said in a statement.
The storm was capable of producing quarter-size hail and winds of 60 mph or more, according to the weather service.
